Insurance Requiring Training

Postby hjcooper » Thu May 16, 2024 10:09 am

I own a Onex and am getting ready to fly it (based at KPNE). My insurance provider is telling me that I must satisfactorily complete a checkout with a Certified Flight Instructor in a two seat Sonex aircraft prior to solo operation. Any idea where I might accomplish this?

If you can't find an instructor with a 2-place Sonex, you might also look into Avemco, and ask about using the EAA flight advisor program which will be more flexible. Those are really the only options I know of if you want insurance for the first flights.

I flew commercial from California to Kansas City to fly with Jeff Schultz in his Sonex and I regret nothing. He's one of the best CFIs I've ever flown with. You can find his e-mail on his web site.
